3rd Graders Being 3rd Graders

Being in the classroom is a completely different environment then being in the classroom-studying about the classroom. It’s so different to go from the student to the mentee. All I have know is being the student, I’m the one who sits in the classroom allowing my brain to soak up all the material that’s being placed in front of me, and now it’s a turn of events, I’m going to be the one in front of the classroom dishing out all the information to the students who can soak it up with their eager brains. Being in the class room was nerve racking at first, but I was happy to see that I had been placed with a teacher that I would want to be just like. She has a way with the students in which they know who to trust and talk to when needed, but they also know when to not cross that line. She’s caring and loving and often calls her third grade students honey or sweetheart, but she’s also strict and demands the rules are followed. She does it in a way that no student feels left out and she doesn’t favor any student over the other. They are all treated equal which I find to be the most difficult. When they break the rules she asks them what they could have done to prevent what had happened, even discipline is a learning process. She is the type of teacher that I aspire to be like.

Everybody's Somebody's Lunch

As an aspiring teacher, creating a lesson plan was something that I was destined to do. It was a little difficult at first to try and picture myself writing a lesson plan for something I have never taught before or before I had even spent some time in an actual classroom. The whole process was really new to me and it was exciting and scary at the same time. The lesson plan I was making now may not be put to use but all the ones I would make in the future surely would. The materials I taught in my lesson plans would sink into the little brains of all my students and my only goal was for it to be successful and fun. I didn’t want to be that teacher who just stands in front of the classroom and lectures to the kids. Back in the days when I was a student, I always excelled in the lessons that the teachers taught that were hands on. As an aspiring teacher I wanted to make learning a fun way to get new information and that was my goal when creating this lesson plan. My partner and I created a science lesson plan for 5th graders. We were discussing the concept of the food chain and tried to do many hands on things so it would be an interesting topic for the students to learn about. We incorporated the ‘hook’ or our video into the plan something we thought the students could relate too- we chose something from the movie “Fern Gully” which is a popular Disney movie from my childhood that is still popular today. We used that as introduction to the food chain. Also in the plan we incorporated many hands on things such as researching with things such as the computers and using books. We wanted them to be independent and use their own knowledge of researching to help them with this project. As the final project we had them create a mobile. We wanted them to create something other than just a written paper to show their knowledge. There is so many ways to display what they have learned and we wanted them to do it in a fun and productive way. The lesson plan in the end was quiet the success now the final challenge would be to actually teach it.
